A memoir and reflection about growing up in an Independent Progressive Party household in Los Angeles in the 1950's. The photo that follows the Communist scare poster is of Reuben Ship, who was deported to Canada in 1954 and then wrote "The Investigator" for CBC Radio Theatre, which helped bring down McCarthy. The next photo is of John and Mura Bright, who fled to Mexico to avoid persecution in the Red scare. John Bright wrote "Public Enemy," the James Cagney gangster film cited in the recent film "J. Edgar."
